Quick Update

Hello. It's Sunday night and I have been thinking about writing a quick update on my blog. My health is improving. I am feeling better every day. I don't want to say much more about that because I feel like I'm complaining now. A friend told me that the body does not heal in an upward line, but it improves in a curved line, some days good and others bad. That has helped me realize that I am getting there, even if it's slower than I would like.

One good thing that came about due to me slowing down is that I did have some time to tackle that book list I made a few weeks ago. I finished the _One Minute Manager_ and _One Minute Manager meets the Monkey_. I don't know that they've improved my management style, but it gave me something to think about. I also finally finished _Eclipse_. This is the third book in the popular Twilight series. My husband refers to the books as the "Mormon Vampire Love Stories." The only thing Mormon about the books is their author. I read the first book for my book club and it's taken me three-four months to finish the other two and they're quick reads. I like the books OK. I have a difficult time suspending my disbelief that a girl could fall in love with a vampire. But I was reminded that the girl is a teenager, so that helped me accept the fantasy. The books provided a welcome reprieve from the stresses of my days, so for that fact alone I enjoyed reading them. I still need to read the Jillian Michaels' books, but they are still at my sister's house.

I added _The Blue Castle_ to my reading list. It's by L.M. Montgomery, the author of the Anne of Green Gables series. This book isn't as well-known, but a favorite of my sister and now a favorite of mine. I highly recommend this book. It is an easy-read and so fun.

Any other suggestions? What else should I be reading?

One other fun thing...we've been in our apartment for six months and we finally decided to decorate a little bit. Well, I shouldn't say "we" because really my sweet husband could not care less. But he was sweet to go to Tai Pan Trading and IKEA with me to purchase the things I needed to make the decorating happen. And he helped me hang the shelves and provided many assurances that it looked OK. Growing up, my parents did not have a strong decorating style in our home (which is OK, parents, if you read this). I came to see the fun in home decorating when I moved to SLC after I finished BYU and my roommate and I faithfully watched Trading Spaces every night after work. We tried a few of the cheap projects on our own, but somehow they looked much better on TV than in our living room.

So, now that years later I finally have my own space to decorate I want to make sure it looks cute and not like I tried but fell short. One thing that is strange too is that all the pictures and things that I had in my apartment in Tallahassee just do not seem to work here. I have tried to put them up in several different rooms, but they do not work. They seem like me, but they do not seem like "us." T always tells me that decorating is my thing, but I want him to feel comfortable here and to feel like it's home. A few of the pictures that I really like just do not work in our little apartment. I'll have to store them until we have a house or figure out how to get rid of them.

So, that's it for my update for tonight. Thanks for reading and humoring my random thoughts.

I think you have a great eye for decorating and your place looked great last time we were there. Also, I've found with your brother, if I do things I like around the house, he usually likes them too. And if he doesn't he'll learn to! I'm glad you are feeling better. We need to get together soon.

Ah! I hadn't been to your blog in a while and missed your near-death drama while it was unfolding! I'm so glad you're doing better. "The Blue Castle" is one of my favorite books, too! So glad you discovered it. I don't have any good book suggestions, but there are some blogs where I can kills hours--especially apartmenttherapy.com and all of it's related sites and links.
